Sun Coast “A” Tennis Rules
Updated 05-2013
1. Play is according to USTA rules for unofficiated matches.
2. Age requirement for play is 21 years.
3. Each player must be a member of the club for which she plays and must be a resident of the SCAT area, not a temporary visitor. Team roster additions can be made no later than 5:00pm on the Monday prior to each round of play except the final round. No roster additions can be made for the final round of play. To add a player, the team captain should phone or e-mail the league Treasurer and President, include the name and phone number of the new player to be added and submit the fee. Rosters are frozen for an entire round and players cannot substitute for another club or another team from the same club. A minimum roster of 8 members is required for club participation. All new SCAT members must have an NTRP rating of 4.0 or higher.
4. League fees are $12.00 and non-refundable after play begins.
5. All matches must be played on the scheduled date even if there is a line-up dispute. If a dispute arises during the match regarding a matter of tennis rules, a ruling using USTA guidelines must be made before the match continues.
6. Substitutes must be a member of the playing club. A substitute may play 2 times per round. Subs cannot be fielded if regular roster players are available for play. Subs must play in the proper position of their strength. Subs may only play for one team per season.
7. Each captain is responsible for submitting her line-up IN GOOD FAITH, playing team strength. Protest for abuse of playing strength must be made by the team captain within a reasonable time following completion of the match.
8. Line-ups shall be prepared before arrival at the club.
9. Each position shall play the best two out of three tiebreak sets. One point is awarded for each position won.
10. All matches played will be on clay courts.
11. Match default time is 15 minutes. A 15 minute warm-up will be allowed, after which any player not present must forfeit her match and teams will be adjusted in order that the forfeited position will be the lowest position. Example: If the forfeiting player was to play in second position, her partner will not play and her team members who were to play in third position will play in second position.
12. Rained out matches must be played within 2 weeks or, if the teams are unable to mutually agree on a date, the match will be played at 1:00pm on the 3rd Sunday following the rain out. If line-ups had been exchanged and the first point of the match was played, line-ups for the make-up match will be the same as the line-up for the rained out match. If rainout occurs before line-up exchange, a new line-up will be made for the make-up. Make-up matches can be played separately by position.
13. One member of each participating club may represent her club as team representative giving her club one vote at any league meeting.
14. Grievances shall be submitted to the President by the representative of the team filing the grievance. The grievance hearing date shall be set by the President. Said hearing to be attended by a representative from each team and by the captains of both teams involved. Ruling on the grievance shall be decided by a majority vote.
15. If the league season ends in a tie for any of the positions, USTA tiebreak procedures will determine the winner.
